Tooth Sensitivity!!
Do you feel that your tooth is sensitive to any hot drinks or cold drinks you take?
Have you ever felt that you have a sharp shooting sensation whenever you eat or drink any sort of warm drinks like tea,coffee etc or when you eat sweets, chocolates and that sensitivity may long for few seconds to few minutes ??
Tooth sensitivity is the discomfort that occurs due to exposure of dentine through loss of enamel or gum recession.Toothsensitivity basically occurs when the dentin layer of the tooth gets exposed to hot,cold, sweet or sour foods and beverages.
So what you need to do is first if at home,start with lukewarm water saline rinses.This will eliminate the problem for temporarily basis.If the problem is much more deeper and you encounter this act soon after you have temporarily defeated the problem and still it continues ,then you surely should visit to your dentist. Now the Dentist will be able to figure it out more appropriately that what is the actual cause for the problem.
Causes of Tooth sensitivity
Mainly tooth becomes sensitive due to primary gingival (gum) infection.
It can occur because the dentin layer has exposed which carry all the nerves inside the tooth occurs due to improper brushing techniques,poor oral hygiene,not rinsing properly after every meal etc.The food which is inside the mouth stays and gets deposited over the teeth with time and especially on the inner surfaces(lingual side)of the tooth.This develops yellow stains and later turns into hard calcified structures which is known as calculus.
This stage of infection can hamper your gums also including your teeth.Primary infection of gums(gingivia)is known as Gingivitis.The advanced stage can further destroy near by structures (periodontal tissues) which may ultimately lead to Periodontitis.
Tips for Sensitive Tooth
1.Toothpaste–
see toothpaste design specifically for sensitivity like Vantez toothpaste by Dr Reddy,Elsenz toothpaste etc.
2.Toothbursh–
Use soft bristle toothbrush.
3.Brushing method–
Brush gently with proper circular motions ,no horizontal no vertical motions only circular ones.Brush from the inner surface of the tooth also.
4.Diet
Avoid acidic food and beverages. Use straws for carbonated drinks .Don’t drink them directly.
5.Teeth grinding habit–
Guard your teeth from grinding.Use a night gaurd to avoid clenching and grinding habit.
6.Dental check-up-
Consult dentist if sensitivity still persists.
Before you encounter such problems be aware about your oral hygiene, maintain it properly,brush your teeth twice a day ,rinse properly after every meal and take a healthy diet.
Make sure to visit your dentist for routine check-ups in after three to six months.
